JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE ANNOUNCED: WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

First off, it's finally happening

At times it seemed like Justice League would forever be in development hell along with the likes of Lobo, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman, but last night it was finally announced/confirmed that Justice League will follow the sequel to Man of Steel tentatively called Batman vs Superman. There had been many rumors circling about that the release date of BvS was pushed back due to WB reassessing their plan for the DC Cinematic Universe. Now it seems that that was exactly the case and that a script is pretty solid and ready to film during/after BvS.

Now it could go two different ways. One that BvS leads directly into Justice League in a great and exciting way. Or Justice League feels rushed and thrown together from cameos in BvS. I would like to believe that Ben Affleck and his Argo screenwriting buddy Chris Terrio (who was in charge of rewriting BvS) will have some sort of creative influence on the DCU franchise which would give me confidence that it could turn out to be a good movie. Especially compared to the Avengers.

Zack Snyder is directing

As polarizing as Man of Steel was, there is no doubt that the film did at least a fair job at setting the table for the rest of the DCU film franchise. Whether Zack Snyder is your favorite or least favorite director, there is no denying that Superman is back in the minds of movie goers and that his overstuffed action packed film made a sizable splash. Though fanboys could argue your ear off about its flaws (while completely forgetting all of the Avengers flaws) Zack Snyder at least found some sort of success in his film. Where this science fiction action fest somehow became his most realistic movie is baffling to me. But still there is a little comfort in knowing that Zack Snyder can at least direct action (something Christopher Nolan wasn't very good at in his Dark Knight trilogy).

Wonder Woman will be in costume

When the Oscars rolled around, there were quotes from the BvS costume designer Michael Wilkinson saying that he had been working on the iconic Wonder Woman costume, trying to keep it modern yet respectful of the history.

“I’m designing the new Wonder Woman costume, I’m tweaking the Superman suit. So yeah – I’m glad [to be hearing] good buzz about it.”

He goes on to say:

“It’s a thrilling and slightly scary prospect of course. It’s so important to get her right. She really deserves to be presented onscreen in her full glory, so what I do is look at the history of the character has been presented on the big screen, small screen, comic books, and graphic novels; we process it all. Then we kind of put that aside and work out what is right for our film, for the cinematic universe that our director Zack Snyder is putting together. We try to create a Wonder Woman relevant for today’s audiences.”

Pretty much confirms that we will be seeing Wonder Woman in BvS at the least.

The release date will be at the latest 2018

Wall Street Journal broke the news that Justice League will follow BvS and see a release date of 2018. Now there are reports flying in that since the film will film back to back, if not during, BvS that the film will be released sometime in 2017. Many speculate that May 2017 will be the most likely date as summer blockbusters seem to all come out in May now, there are many that believe we will see a release date announced somewhere near San Diego Comic-con.

Jason Momoa is going to play someone...or something...

Rumor after rumor has poured in about Jason since BvS was first casting. Now it seems that he has signed on for some mysterious role. Before we knew about Jessie Eisenberg being cast as Lex Luthor, many had thought that Momoa would play Doomsday or perhaps Lobo. Now the popular belief is that he will be playing Aquaman. This to me seems somewhat silly as he in no way resembles the King of Atlantis. Momoa's presence and stature speak more to a villain for me. Darkseid anyone?
